I just received my copy of Introducing Character Animation with Blender by Tony Mullen yesterday, which is available for purchase at the blender.org e-shop. It has an attractive cover and looks like a good quality product, with just under 480 pages including the index…
I’ll be going through it slowly, but plan on posting my experiences with it as time progresses. The back cover says the book deals with modeling, armatures, lighting, and rendering. I’m particularly interested in the part that claims, “see how armatures, lattices, and IK interact,” since I am yet unable to properly reverse-engineer Mancandy. Hopefully a nice mellow pace through the book will take me to my next level of understanding in animation and rigging. After all, I’m a blender beginner, practically speaking. (This book is also available on amazon.com.)

I’m thinking about giving a chapter by chapter rundown on my experiences with this book as I progress, although I won’t be giving details on the specifics. I plan to inform on the content in general, but leave the nuts and bolts to the book itself, leaving in place the value of the text and not undermining Tony Mullen’s efforts.

Did I just read that YOU are a blender beginner? Noooooooooo! That makes your videos all the more amazing!

It’s true!!! Don’t tell anyone. I’ve only been using Blender since 2.43, not long before the 2.44 release. I really give the credit to the other video tutorials out there (BlenderNewbies, Geneome.net, Spaghetti Moon, Montage Studios, Greybeard, Metsys, Tufts, etc).
I have used 3D Studio Max before, so I’m not necessarily new to 3D. This sped up my adaptation to the Blender environment. After watching the tuts at blender.org, I was hooked.

There really IS a need for a forum. All the comments are turning into discussion
I’d say I’m relativley new as well. I found Blender 2 years ago during the 2.40-2.41 release, and used it on and off, so I wouldn’t really count those 2 years as being a Blender user.
(Topic question: When and during which release did you start using Blender?)

Done. Temporary, no frills, not pretty, but definitely the place to be. Blender Underground Forums
