There really IS a need for a forum. All the comments are turning into discussion :P

Done. Temporary, no frills, not pretty, but definitely the place to be. Blender Underground Forums

I'd say I'm relativley new as well. I found Blender 2 years ago during the 2.40-2.41 release, and used it on and off, so I wouldn't really count those 2 years as being a Blender user.

(Topic question: When and during which release did you start using Blender?)

It's true!!! Don't tell anyone. I've only been using Blender since 2.43, not long before the 2.44 release. I really give the credit to the other video tutorials out there (BlenderNewbies, Geneome.net, Spaghetti Moon, Montage Studios, Greybeard, Metsys, Tufts, etc).

I have used 3D Studio Max before, so I'm not necessarily new to 3D. This sped up my adaptation to the Blender environment. After watching the tuts at blender.org, I was hooked.

I'm thinking about giving a chapter by chapter rundown on my experiences with this book as I progress, although I won't be giving details on the specifics. I plan to inform on the content in general, but leave the nuts and bolts to the book itself, leaving in place the value of the text and not undermining Tony Mullen's efforts.
