This site is just barely off the ground, if it is off the ground at all. I expect nobody will read this on the day that I’m writing it; but once I get a few tutorials posted, I may attract some visitors…
I’m really doing this for no good reason other than I have a web host, a domain, and am impressed with blender. I’m generally impressed with the efforts of many open source software projects, but this one in particular is useful, powerful, relevant, and well supported.
I’m relatively new to blender, but I’ve used other 3D apps before, namely 3D Studio Max (several years ago). I wouldn’t call myself an artist — I tend to be less artistically proficient and a little more technically proficient — but fooling with blender has stirred up a desire to develop my artistic talents a little, if there turns out to be any to develop. I hope to be working on them over the coming years.
One of the things that helped me get off the ground with blender so rapidly is the availability of video tutorials. There are a lot of them out there (just look at BlenderNation.com, BlenderNewbies.com, or Geneome.net) and if all goes well, I’ll be modestly adding to the collection. I may also do a few things for Photoshop, and if I get bored, for After Effects, although as my node-editing and compositing for blender knowledge increases, maybe I’ll open AE a little less often.
Anyway, if it turns out you’re reading this today (June 26, 2007) there’s not much to see when you look around the site. Over the next few weeks, I hope to make some additions.
I chose Blender Underground as a domain name for two reasons I can think of. First, it sounded cool. Second, it was available. After thinking about it however, I realized the name sounds sort of counter-culture, and I like that. So I thought we needed a special purpose, or theme. I decided that opposition to The Man was as good a purpose as any.
Now as to The Man’s identity, your guess is as good as mine. He’s quite an enigmatic figure, and a symbol that means different things to different people; but on this we can agree: he must be opposed. I see him as a type of Agent Smith; he can be anyone at any time, unless you’re one of us. If this rambling of mine does nothing to shed light on the purpose of Blender Underground, then my plan is accomplished, and The Man is, in some small way, thwarted.
If this rant is just too weird for you, all the better. Mosey along off to some “normal” site, take the blue pill, and forget you were ever here. In all seriousness though, welcome to Blender Underground. I have no idea where it will all lead, but it should be fun along the way, unless it turns out that nobody ever shows up.

I would just like to say a very big Thankyou for your first video tutorial.re Blender Basics 1. It is very clear to understand and the detail you go into is just what we need as total newbies . Am looking forward to part 2 very much. Also you mention that you will be going through the Tony Mullen book on” Character Animation with Blender” that will be so good also . I have just got my copy of this together with “Essential Blender” Well done its the small details that do help you to understand how things work, like a jigsaw puzzle it only needs one piece missing and your in trouble,
Many thanks may I wish you well with BlenderUnderground.

John,
Welcome to Blender Underground and thanks for the compliments.
Part 2 was just uploaded. Here’s the post.
I don’t yet have Essential Blender, but I hope to soon. And I need to spend more time with ICAWB now that the first two basics tutorials are finished.
