Here’s a legitimate poll to kick off Blender Underground’s freshly added polling. You can select up to 3 answers. I have the polls formatted, but there still might be glitches, so if you experience anything weird, just add a comment and let me know…

If you choose “Other,” then drop a comment and let me know what you’re looking for. The poll isn’t going to absolutely decide what Blender Underground does next, but it will give me an idea of what you’re interested in, so I can move in that direction. The next tutorial in the pipe is Blender Basics Part 3.

If it turns out this poll is glitched, I’ll fix it and repost. It’s an important topic and it will likely be an ongoing or reoccurring question. If you want to be heard in our other polls on ice cream and favorite colors, head on over to the Polls Archive.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

I think you should take Jahshaka off the poll. After some research I found that it is, at this point, a useless software that’s been over-hyped by the developers. They say V2, it’s more like V0.02.

If you look around on their forums, you can see that no one knows how to do anything and there is almost no documentation. The documentation that does exist is 50% wrong. Plus their FINAL build, doesn’t even install correctly. In my opinion, Jashaka is 100% superficial software.

Duke I can’t find a lot on the internet about it either. There are a few reviews where people did some basic stuff with it, and it’s mentioned all over the place, but my impression was that people were more hopeful about an open source NLE/Comp program. I added it because it’s in that category.

I’m also one of the hopeful, that we’ll see something real in the open source NLE category. I still intend to spend some time with Jahshaka and see what it’s capable of, but after finding a lack of substantive material on the web, I’m somewhat guarded about my expectations.

It’s interesting that with around 45 votes, it has received only 2. That’s less than 0.5% in a poll where multiple selections are allowed. Apparently there’s not much interest in Jahshaka, only hopefulness.

If someone has another perspective, feel free to comment.

I’m like you, Apollos. I’ve actually tried Jahshaka and got absolutely nowhere with it. But, I tried Blender a few years back and had exactly the same experience. And look at Blender now. I have hope for Jahshaka. Including the hope that I’m spelling it right ;) it could become a great open source resource.

That’s a good point, Dave. At some point I’m going to make a serious effort with it; and if it works well, I’ll post something on it.

However, I’m not betting on a Jahshaka Underground web site, but you never know.

I’m just saying, right now it is *too harsh*worthless. But the developers said they’re rebuilding V3 from scratch, so as soon as it’s out I’m testing it.

Actually, I’d like to see added something about MakeHuman. It is an interesting project and works nicely with Blender.

Note: The development of MakeHuman is still in process so YMMV.

    YMMV?

I think MakeHuman is interesting, but it is too limited in what you can do, in terms of creation. I think it’s just an open-source version of Daz Studio.

btw, am I starting to sound cyncial because I keep bad-wording open-source software?

    YMMV==Your Millage May Vary…

I am the reverse as far as open-closed source is concerned. I have been in conversion hades for the past month trying to get things out of proprietary formats. That issue is for another day though…;-)

Anyway, MakeHuman, as a stand alone, is very limited (hence the YMMV) but once you create the basic form you simply export it to Blender where you have all the power. I use it for a baseline since I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler and my modeling skills are rotten (Hint, Hint Apollos).

I had MakeHuman for a while, I used it maybe 2 times. So I just did as you described. I exported one of the standard body types into Blender and uninstalled MakeHuman. I think what limits MakeHuman is that you can’t control hair and there’s no standard clothes library. It’s just seems kind of weak for now.

LOL! We’ll get there, penix1. If I have my way Blender Underground will be doing Blender tutorials (and others) for quite a while.

I’d like to see Audio fleshed out in Blender; as it stands now, Audio
is a bit thin in Blender. Perhaps a tutorial on producing dope sheets
in Blender? After all, so far, the fastest and most efficient method
is still by hand. Any ideas?

    Alexeieff,

Thanks for the feedback. Dope sheets might be a little beyond a basics series, and are definitely beyond my knowledge as of this moment. You might want to poke around the BlenderArtists forums and see if there are any good ideas there. They frequently deal with quite advanced topics.

However I’ll take it under advisement. Welcome to Blender Underground!
