Needless to say, Blender Basics Part 3 is taking longer than I wanted it to, but such is the way of things. I started out my Part 3 script with the misconception that I could squeeze a segment on Object Data and the OOPS schematic into the beginning of a tutorial on mesh editing. These things never work out. I realized this when the Object Data script was approaching 4,000 words, which is roughly 40 minutes of tutorial, depending on the pace…

The notion that I could squeeze mesh editing onto the end of that quickly evaporated at around the same time. Twenty to thirty minutes just isn’t enough to do that wide subject any service, and I’m not quite ready to push the envelope with a 1.5+ hour tutorial.

The result is that the Script that was going to be Blender Basics Part 3 is now Blender Basics Part 4 (Object Data), and I’m writing Part 3 now (Mesh Editing Basics). I’m fairly confident this will work out, but it remains to be seen if an hour long tutorial on the OOPS Schematic and relating subjects won’t put everyone to sleep.

Is tutorial scripting Art or Science? From an objective and dispassionate view of my current process, a little of both and a lot of neither; but I’ll let you be the final judge. I’d like to think that Blender Basics Part 3 will be written, recorded, edited, overlayed, converted, and posted by this time next week, but don’t hold me to it. Still, I promise to do my best to make it happen.

I want it tomorrow. And part 4 on Monday. Or you’re fired ;)

You’re doing fine, Apollos. I’m quite sure nobody will hold you to any of your self-imposed deadlines. :D

I’m so glad you do this work!
I visit your website every day to look if the new tutorial is ready or not…

by the way: on http://www.blenderguide.org i’m creating a blender web directory. it’s not yet finished (neither design nor the listings), but your website and great tutorials will receive an extra position…

What you’re doing Apollos is a FINE ART and.. well.. science at the same time!

It’s not only a tutorial we’re waiting for, it’s a tutorial with style. The strong points that keep me coming for more are: your professional voice, the interactive look of the tutorial; even it’s an XviD video it is still with no glitches that I always see in others’ tutorials when moving the ‘3D View’, and yeah.. there are the key indicators, and you have the best view of the objects.. all in all, well planned tutorials that I would buy if they were for sale..

Keep on transmitting the broadcast from the Blender Underground.. ;)

    Dave,

I like your schedule. If I can stay on it, Blender Underground will post its 50th video tutorial by the end of the year! :) Keep the whip crackin’!!!

    saebelzahnigel,

That’s you? I saw that site in my server logs and poked around a bit the other day. It looks good, and will be a great resource for the Blender community. Nice!

    RedBirdiii,

Thanks for the compliments! I hope to deliver on your expectations for Part 3. I’ll be trying to wrap up the script today, and record tomorrow, if all goes well. Welcome to Blender Underground!

    saebelzahnigel,
You are lucky with once per a day… I visit this site almost in every hour hoping for new videos. I want to watch it as fast as i can, once it is posted. I do not bear it!

    Wizek,

I hope to do “quick vids” at some point, which might make your hourly check-ups more rewarding. Quick Vids will be short, no-frills video tidbits, 2-10 minutes or so addressing various subjects (such as snapping perhaps).

When I perfect my video tutorial mojo, I can hopefully address questions posed on Blender Underground with quick video responses.

Thanks for being here, bro! It feels like company…

I don’t know how you do it. 1.5 hours of script probably takes over 5 hours to write, but keep it up. Looking forward to it.

Btw, what do you use just a general word processor?

    Duke

I use MS Word, mostly because I’ve been using it for so long. But I’ve found OpenOffice Write to be an excellent word processor, and a good Word replacement. Write also understands the DOC format, and so is compatible at the document level.

Yeah it took quite a while to write the script, and I’m trying to get it down closer to an hour as I record, but there’s a lot of stuff in there!
