Hi Appolos,

I have followed your videos part 1, 2 and halfway through three.

Some questions if it is alright to post them here:

Like Ezra my box select does not work...I have a sony vaio and OS is Vista...everything else seems to work.

I noticed that when you use box select or the knife your mouse is connected to the piece you are working with by a dotted line or some such graphic and also that as you sweep a circle it leaves a red squigly line...that would be cool if It only requires preference to be selected.

Also, I noticed as you use your box select a grey box show up ....is that a preference also or is it some other issue altogether since none of those characteristics are evident in the blender 2.49 version that I have.

Thanks for your videos they are definitely a great learning tool and are really appreciated.

Your tutorial is great! I'm only 16 but I definitely want to learn animation. I always watch animated movies and Meet the Robinsons just totally made my mind up! lol anyways, when I first downloaded Blender I thought it was going to be complicated but I totally understand it now with your video. I also use Inkscape and made some pretty cool stuff with that.
Before I was using Word Documents for logos and flyers but Inkscape is better for that kind of stuff. I decided to learn how to use Blender when I found a video tutorial for Inkscape on how to use Blender, Gimp, and Inkscape together.
its on http://screencasters.heathenx.org/.
So yeah...these videos are definitely helping me alot! It's even better that i'm homeschooled so i have a lot of free time.

Well I just finished this one for tonight. This summer I've been setting up a schedule for myself without trying. Simply put, gaming during the day and at night usually starting at 9 I have been going through your tutorials day by day. I've always looked at blender as something I could work with, but it seemed so hard just to get a start on how to work with it. Your tutorials have helped me out a lot.

I started with the tutorials from Blender's official site. Needless to say I almost fell asleep. I did some more searching and found Blender Underground. I took a look at the video you have embed for the first 5 minutes, and it caught my eye. I decided to download the videos and after a failed attempt on trying to make them work with WMP, I downloaded VLC media player and the next day got started with the first Blender Underground video.

I have to say, even though there's been many points where I've needed to pause, rewind, and play the videos again, I enjoy your videos MUCH better than Blender's official. Soon I hope to get working on some game modding at first, then later get into some game creation and such using Blender.

I don't know why I told you my whole story on this, but thanks for making these videos (and putting some excitement into them) and for giving me the help I needed to start on Blender. I plan on going through to #5 soon and then playing around with Blender on my own a bit, getting used to things more, and finding other tutorials if needed. But I'd like you to know that however far I get into this program, I have to say I owe it all to Blender Underground.

Thanks Apollos.

~existingdark

PS. if you have an IM (although I know how much dial-up can be a pain) my MSN is existingdark@hotmail.com I'd love to have a chat with you in real-time. If nothing else I check my other email (existingdark@yahoo.com) daily.

Whoa, just noticed how much I really typed. Sorry about that, heh.

Hi Apollos :)
You are my hero :)

Was messing up on the Net, reading Noob to Pro, gathering information frm random sources and eventually was totallyvery confused. As I thought that I would postpone this learning of Blender, I hit a jackpot. I hit these tutorials :)

Hey Apollos, i just completed reading first 3 tutorials, and I am already rich! Here's something I tried, lemme know if appeals to you.
http://www.zshare.net/image/61980094c11feca3/
All by what you have taught. Yes a lil bit of shadow playing and material colouring. Also, a slight bit of Photoshop to manipluate the Contrast and add Text.

Also, darth_gimp - great work :)

Joelv, sorry I missed your message! Thanks so much for the kind words. :D

Ezra, I'm not sure why that doesn't work for you. I would guess that you need a new video driver. If you haven't updated to the latest driver for your card in a while, now might be a good time to try it. Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you were able to finish the project, even with the thing not working right.

Joel, Ezra, welcome to Blender Underground. 8)

I was able to complete the tin can through without that box select when 'occlude background geometry' is selected. Excellent tutorial Apollos. Your great at this. Thank you so much for the time you put into these. I posted this site in the Second Life Blender group chat. Lot's of SL folks trying o learn Blender to do 'sculpties', a unique form of a 3D mesh limited to 1024 faces, no more no less. That of course limits the Blender modeling features they can use to only those things that don't change geometry.

when I activate 'occlude background geometry' the border or box select won't work for me. I've completely reloaded Blender and Python with no improvement. Any suggestions? Oh yeah, and when the mouse cursor goes into the menu bar below, when I have that feature selected, the viewport goes black with the edges lines of the mesh red.
