Here is a new poll at Blender Underground asking, “What do you want to see most in future tutorials?” Blender Underground is interested to know what its users think. Please remember, if you choose “Other,” post a comment on what that other thing is; it would be most appreciated…
Although the feedback probably won’t determine which tutorial comes next, it may influence which tutorials Blender Underground spends the most time preparing and executing. Previous polls can be found in the Polls Archive. Thanks much for participating!

I prefer another modeling project this time using reference images. I am having real problems getting the hang of that mainly getting my side and top images to line up. I guess it is black magic at this point.

The main thing with getting your images to line up is to make sure they line up in your image editing package (gimp/photoshop) and make them square images. Like 512×512 pixels. As long as you make sure they’re the same size, you should have no trouble lining them up.

I would like to see more of the nuts and bolts stuff you’ve been doing, perhaps culminating in another modeling project. Something showing spin and spindup and array modifiers, maybe? Quick ways to produce lots of geometry and then ways to do it and save in “actual” geometry too.

I’m a real beginner in Blender, and so i would like to see everything of those topics in the list. I watched all part till now, and I love them. These are the best video tutorials for blender, i’ve ever seen in the web, and i watched many of them. So i hope you can make videos with all topics.

I’d like to see tutorials on materials and UV mapping.. the tutorials on this subject is very much few if there is any..
August 29th, 2007 at 5:02 am
Well, I couldn’t really choose which one, because I think they all should be covered!
Just in different orders of priority.
1: Nuts and bolts
2: Materials/UV (UV doesn’t stand for Ultra-violet, 3D newbies!)
3: Another Modeling project
4: Lighting and Rendering
from these 4 you can get a good static scene and render it with lighting
5: Animation
Since this is kind of an advanced topic, I think it should be done last.

First off, I just want to say how much I’ve enjoyed the tutorials you’ve created to date. I’ve tracked down and viewed almost every video tutorial on Blender that’s available, and I’ve found yours to be the most useful and informative. Keep up the good work.
As for the future, I still struggle with Blender’s material and texturing process, and would like to see that explained in more depth. Also, rigging appears to be a bit of black art, and I would like to see that process developed in some detail.

1. materials/ and UV mapping
2. Lighting and Rendering
then another modeling proyect
i think is the natural lerning curve

I’d like to see information on the particle system, epecially on making static particle hair. Information on those subjects is very scarce.
August 29th, 2007 at 9:20 am
I’d say there are 3 or 4 tutorials on various uses of particles. Including 1 or 2 for hair and others just for cool effects.
I think that would probably be one of the later tutorials since it’s not really a “basics” topic.

Hi underground blenderers!
What tutorials people want to watch depends on the current blender experience. But when you know enough about UI and all the tools its time to show how to use Blender in action.
As a recent and current (job) C4D user i can recomend excellent tutorials style from: http://www.c4dcafe.com/ipb/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=31
BTW Catmul Clark is the same in both Blender And C4D.
Happy blendering and tuting
Thank You for all tuts you’ve done so far!
Right now im interested in Materials/UV Mapping

Great comments all, and thanks for the compliments!
I’ll be carefully considering everything written here when planning Parts 5 and 6.

@ DaveC:
Well I’ll be darned! That did the trick. I did have to set the right side image X-offset to -1.00 but it fell right in after that.
Now to get on with the geometry. If all goes well, I should have a great looking Mach 5 (Speed Racer’s car for those that don’t know). I got hold of very good top and side images for it and just had to try. Wish me luck!

@penix1:
Once again, I’m just glad to help.
Good luck with the model.
August 29th, 2007 at 5:45 pm
I realized I didn’t thank you DaveC so I am saying it now…Thank you!
@Apollos:
Well, now that I have that black magic down I guess the next step (in my humble view) would be material and lighting since they are related would be a good next tutorial. Of course, any tutorial you produce I would grab in a New York minute after you post it…

Gotta tell you guys, one of the things that makes this website great (IMO) is that you all hang out here.
You’re all invited to a barbecue, right here at BU. Who’s having what? C’mon, throw a shrimp on the barbe and tell me what you’re all drinking. I’m pouring. Try to ignore that there’s not actually any shrimp featured in the photo.
BTW, if you’re a vegetarian, those are veggie burgers up there…otherwise…they’re not.
Let’s turn this mutha out.
August 29th, 2007 at 11:39 pm
I’ll bring the Bourbon since I live next to Kentucky I can get it by the barrel cheap. The shrimp are out of the frame is all.
Hmmm…. That image would make a good model….LOL.
August 30th, 2007 at 3:52 am
Oh, man! Not another barbecue. How will I cope? I’ll have a Coca-Cola
I can’t believe there are only FOUR votes for the nuts and bolts! I mean, without the nuts and bolts, everything else will fall apart. The barbeque won’t happen.
Nuts & Bolts and a project showing what the nuts & bolts are for
August 30th, 2007 at 4:23 am
Awesome, I’ll take a Pepsi if you have it
I cast my vote for nuts and bolts though I will be happy with anything on the list. I’m sure I can use all of it.
Just a quick question, if you are making a really complex model is it a good idea to use seporate mesh objects together or have it all be part of the same mesh?
August 30th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Well, it’s easier in terms of material assignment to just separate. But the shading will look uneven. But if you have the mesh all together, it’s a bit harder because you have to assign different Vertex Groups different materials and material indeces can be kind of tricky; but your shading will look right.
I suggest trying the latter, because IMO, it’s the proper way and something you should learn to use in more complex scenes.
August 30th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
Wewt! BBQ! I’ll take a Barq’s Creme Soda and a Juicy Boyger please! Wouldn’t mind a new tut to follow to go with that. *hint hint nudge nudge*
August 30th, 2007 at 6:56 pm
I’d suggest
1.materials, UV mapping, textures
2.lighting and rendering
3.modifiers, maybe another modeling project
I’ve said it before, these are some of the best tutorials I’ve seen!!! Can’t wait for more:)
Kudos!!

Hi Apollos!
Thanks for doing such a great tutorials for blender noobs like me
This is my 3rd time trying to learn blender and your tutorials are really helping me out!
About “What do you want to see most in future tutorials?”, I really would like to have some mini project like create simple model, texture it, rig it, animate it, render it and composite it! I don’t know how many people here have other 3D program backgrounds like me, but for those people all thay want is where is function “X” and what is blender kind of work flow… There is so many “how to create hero character” kind of tutorials if you know what I mean?
Anyway, I really appreciate your work no matter what kind of tutorial you may make

Thanks King Mob!! More are on the way.
Tak, welcome to Blender Underground! Thanks, and that’s good info. Let us know if you have any questions and we’ll do our best to answer.
