Great tutorial, I am a 2 month veteran of Blender and thought I knew quite a bit, but still was able to learn from how much detail you go into each facet of the program. Keep it up.

You call this a node tutorial? It's more like a part of a blender-node course! (which is a good thing). I'm pretty un-unique from every one else who commented, namely, that I joined the underground to show that your hard work is appriciated. I'm still going to have to study nodes a lot more to really grasp hold of what I'm doing, but this was a great help.

Hi Nipper, and welcome to Blender Underground 8)

Thanks! I haven't done a tutorial on this, but I might in the future. It was made with the old particle system (< 2.46) but I suspect it's more than possible to create the effect in the new one. I just haven't learned how to use it yet.

Just joined Underground today and am downloading all the blender basics tuts. I think the effect you created here is really great. Have you done a tutorial on this effect and if not will you?
I'm still at the beginner stage and am looking for any help and tuts I can get my little paws on.

Keep up the great work, I know everyone appreciates it.
