Hey Paul, don't feel discouraged. The bar set looks complicated but most of it is made of very simple models. Lots of 8 point circles and subsurf.

I've only been using Blender for a few months but I have the advantage of no social life and a job that gives me way more free time then any normal person should have.

Yeah, I think his Scotch is a little on the dark side too. The color of the reflected Scotch is closer to what the color should be IMO....

Still, beats what I can do seeing as I haven't been taught how to draw a straight line....Ehhum Apollos!

Penix, forgive me. Straight lines are an intense subject with many tie-ins. I'm hoping they're covered in Tony Mullen's book, which I'm working my way through now. I'm also looking for material on the wiki that deals with this fascinating, yet frustrating (not to mention unmasterable) subject.

I'm still debating whether to do straight lines as a single tutorial (not sure how to squeeze it in to an hour or even an hour and a half) or to break it up into like 15-20 ten minute segments. I've even considered addressing it after the basics series since it might be a bit much for newcomers.

I'm even uncomfortable with my own knowledge of the subject--I know I should consider it a journey and not a destination, but I want to impart a solid working knowledge onto my viewers--I mean, I still open up the Straight Line editor within Blender and I feel lost in all the options and stuff.

Well, I guess you told me....LOL.....

So there's nothing I can do but sit and wait until the master can figure it out...

On the serious side, how is #5 coming? I realize you have a life outside of Blender but nobody can really teach it like you do.

You're very kind! :D

I'm still doing research, which is being mixed with the necessities of life. I've had to spend a bit more time focusing on mundane things like paying bills and eating. I hope to be back to it soon.

The concept of a straight lines is well beyond me. I hope to understand the basics of it sometime in the next 5 to 10 years but I'm not holding my breath.

As for the color of the scotch. I think this just means I'm not drinking enough of it to know what color it really is.

The ice cubes were fun. I may do a couple of small tutorials on how I made the glasses and how I made ice. I just don't think I am very good at explaining how to do something.

Just make sure you add a "not responsible for blindness" disclaimer. :P

I'm going to keep going Coyabitt, after getting a good start on the basics from Apollos' video tuts i can't stop now. Besides i'm starting to enjoy myself, it's fun, :D although frustrating at times. I know the only way to get good at it is by doing. So i'm doing

Hey Coyabbit,

I realized what this is missing to make it truly complete (and to show my straight line technique). A swizzle stick! So I made one for it and here is the .blend:

http://mysite.verizon.net/penix1/Swizzle_Stick.blend

Feel free to append it if you wish.

Here is the render:

That reminds me of movie called Hudsucker Proxy.

What's this sillyness about makeing straight lines?

Penix and I have had a running joke since he informed me he couldn't draw a straight line. I've been promising to help ever since. Every once in a while he gives me a nudge (jab) and reminds me that he still can't draw a straight line, all the while pushing his own agenda to get me to do a straight line tutorial.
