I made a tutorial on this subject because it was driving me crazy. I can finally do it so I thought I make a tutorial. Just to let everyone know I figured this all out the same day of the tutorial so if theres any input on making it better just let me know:)

Nice tutorial!

But one crit: You wouldn't have to fiddle with the repositioning of the low-poly duplicate if you moved it on the axis by a fixed amount, say 5.
Then you could just move it back by the same amount after you did the decimating.

Thanks for the tip:) Didnt even think about that. I did try duplicate, press esc and move to a dfferent layer but my textures wouldnt work when I did that.

Is baking normal maps the exact same way as baking textures? Only difference is that you choose "Textures" when baking?? I dont really understand too much from that page of what is going on.
