Actually your fuse is what gave me the idea in the first place. :) When Duke asked how you got the twisty effect, it started me thinking. After a little messing around I figured it out, and thought it would make a good tutorial!

I am currently in the process of trying to attempt having a go at making a reasonable video tutorial on creating a rope like yours, Apollos, but using the screw tool (found in Editing/Mesh Tools).

I know it can be done quite easily because I've tried it. But it'll be my first screencast and I'm VERY, VERY nervous.

I'm only doing it because I just got a free copy of Camtasia Studio 3 on a magazine coverdisk. :D Gotta use it, ain't I? lol

If I need your help, Apollos, I'll definitely ask. First, I must plan it and write a script.

Yes, that's the rule. :D Hey let me know how you like Camtasia when it's all said and done.

Well I'm running 2.45 now and I had no problems with twisting like Duke described. Linear falloff and 1500 degrees rotation produced the same results for me as it did in 2.44. :?

Hi Guys,

This is the First post and only my 3rd night using blender.

I have followed apollos first 4 tutorials and i have learnt so much (thanks!!) i wondered over to the forum earlier tonight and saw this tutorial so i decided to follow it.

here is what ive come up with:

Image

I decided to model a bucket under it hehe. i had trouble trying to attatch the rope to the bucket as i dont really know how to edit new shapes into existing objects. i did try to add a hoop into the top of the bucket but it wasnt going to happen so i ended up just adding cylinders to make it look semi decent.

I would also like to know how to save rendered images from blender, i eneded up just taking a screenshot for that one and i think its lost alot of quality. i have set an output folder in one of the tabs but it didnt seem to do anything. also how can i increase the intensity of the light to make the bucket a brighter red?

i look forward to any tips/constructive critism etc.

Alex

buzza,

Thanks for posting, I love seeing tutorial results! I think it looks pretty good. 8)

To save the image once it's rendered, choose File->Save Image.... You can change the format and quality options in the Format tab of the Scene Context (F10). If you render animations, they are saved automatically to the folder specified in the Output tab (by default I think it's /tmp).

To adjust the light, select it and press F5 to go to the shading context. Adjust the lamp's "Energy" setting to increase its brightness. You can also duplicate the lamp or add a new one.

You can also set the material's Emit property in the Shaders tab of the material buttons, but you're better off adjusting the lamp I think. The Emit value actually simulates the material giving off light, and will be calculated in Radiosity renders.

You're welcome, buzza. Welcome to the boards. 8) The new image is brighter, better.

Off the top of my head, I would say go through the video tutorials on blender.org, then check out geneome.net. Those are the only ones that come to mind right now, as far as video tutorials are concerned (although I'm certain there are others). There's definitely Materials material in some of those.

Well goodnight then. (where are you at BTW?) I'd sing a little lullaby but I don't think it will help you sleep.

i got to level with you, this has got to be one of the first tutorals ive actually been able to follow with real good results. ive got to say this while interface takes a bit of getting used to.. navigation is easy its the simple things like how different objects are selected and the real basic things you need to know to do anything really ive had the most trouble with. forums like this and some of the e-books etc have been real helpful. thanks and keep up the good work!
