This cloaked feature must have been implemented for ages, but somehow I just discovered it 30 seconds ago : when grabing/scaling/rotating an object using the appropriated shortcut keys (g/s/r), you can select the axis you want to lock on by holding the middle mouse button and pointing on the right axis.

pretty cool hum ? :D

I always turn that annoying thing off. I know some people like it but to me it's in the way and the keyboard works just as well.
