Slightly exaggerated title, I know.

This week's challenge was an idea that I had already had floating around, having recently watched some excellent tutorials from videocopilot.net and read the bounce tumble and splash book.

Several others confirmed that this was a good idea. I suppose now is a good time to announce that participants will be modelling, and rendering a special effect.

This effect will be used in a future challenge so make sure it is something you will want to reuse! (of course, the winner will be making a tutorial and .blend available for those not wishing to participate this week ;) )

Feel free to submit a still or animated movie (make sure it isn't too large - some of our members are still using dial-up) and the winners will be judged on Sunday the 28th of September.

--Maximum length of time for animations is 20 seconds
--other objects in the scene are allowed, but not recommended for reasons to be disclosed post-competition
--remember - you're not limited to just environmental sfx - you could make a magical force field for a game animation, a rift in the space-time continuum, or anything else which could be part of another composition...that was a hint :)

Good luck and have fun!
Dan

darth and damascus,

i'm not trying to discourage people! think of an effect you'd like to produce, and have a look for some ideas - blenderartists has a lot of good tutorials on there, youtube is full of them, and there may even be some good links on BU.

also, videocopilot.net has some excellent energy/explosion/smoke tutorials which with a little effort could be co-opted for use with Blender. They certainly will give you some cool ideas.

Dan

Okay, thanks. I'm so frustrated with this. I know what I WANT to do... we'll see. Darth and I also figured out today that I somehow have a bummed install of Blender (some things he can do, I can not). Yeah, same version, and even tested under same OS. Oh well.

This is a WIP.

I've used a tutorial from youtube on growing curves and added growing leaves.
This a link to the original tutorial on youtube. (I did not make this BTW.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_igp7TyRGnU

My animation makes use of curves, shape keys and the NLA editor.

This will be made more complex if I find the time...

Here's the link to the animation:

Hope you like it.

Started to work on my FX. I've just followed the 3D World tutorial to get a nice glow effect. This has really given me a desire to learn more about nodes.
