Anyone up to a little challenge?

Agent Darth_Gimp needs an owl model for a logo. This challenge is just for fun, but hopefully we can manage to deliver a decent model while improving and sharing our skills.

Ok here is the gist..

For our web design work we use the name "SilverOwl WebDesign" and I think it would be sweet to have a model of an Owl.. Great Horned Owl would be cool.

This model does not have to be detailed and I am not interested in animating just yet. Anyone up to it? I would be applying a chrome material to it as well.

Rules are simple:
-- Post a simple reply in this thread if you want to participate.
-- Do the best you can.
    -- Don't be afraid to show works-in-progress.
-- Expect constructive criticism to help you improve; provide the same for others.
-- Share the modeling techniques you applied to the process, in order to benefit other users.
-- Post your results in this thread as a rendered image, along with a .blend file.
-- When you post your final work, include a quote from you that releases the model to "SilverOwl WebDesign."

If I think of anything else, I'll add it here. PM me with any suggestions on how the rules should be modified or appended. Right now there aren't any guidelines. Make something cool.

I am going to disqualify myself early...

Anyone getting caught using that gets the same fate as me and a black mark on their permanent record...

[EDIT]

Just for this post I am condemning myself to giving sculpting mode a try on this project.

LOL, nice find Penix, and I agree. Though I'm going try really hard not to disqualify myself. :D

And to prove I am building my own model, here is a rather frightening Work in Progress image.

Coyabbit, you are mastering the modeling very quickly. How long have you been using blender?

Is it me or do I see a little bit of your mask in that image? It is really good work. Much better than my current lump of clay. The sculpting tools are hard (at least to me) to grasp. I'll keep chugging along and who knows, maybe I'll win.... :P

Quite possibly too amitious! This is one of those times when it helps to know a little about the anatomy of the creature in question. Which I don't. :S But that's why it's a challenge! :D

He'll need even less than that if you frame the shot just right.

About two months now. With no prior 3D modeling experience. I have to admit it's a little scary how quickly I'm grasping this.

Penix,
Your right, I used the same approach as I did with my mask. Though I think Dave may have me beat on the pose. I don't think I am quite that ambitious yet.
