Geometry Planet is a platform and puzzle game with RPG style upgrades, moves lists and more! We focus in entertainment, fun, excitement and most importantly re-playability! For now we are focusing on the Blob race's storyline as it is the most complicated in all respects, a demo should be available shortly if progress is able to continue. Puzzle stages are in the process of development, these will feature a type of, "Living Room" which changes per puzzle in many areas throughout the world for each mission, character and race. Think of it as entering an instance, special upgrade to an ability of your choice or extra experience, or later with other races items, armor, weapons and weapon/armor skills.

This game is based around, yes, you are right, GEOMETRICAL SHAPES!!!

!!HERE ARE SOME OF THE NEWEST PICTURES!!

Everything in the game will use 3 of the main geometrical shapes including all and none of them, the blob character. The blob character is a formless, mass of "goop" that could only be defined as a "blob" this being the most interesting character to use (depending on your tastes) will be the main character we will start developing the game with; also it is a little more difficult than the rest of the shapes (depending on whats hard for YOU). The other shapes are; Sphere characters that are nature focused magic using people that are exactly that, spheres, but imagine something like a whiffle ball with energy (light) inside of it. The Square characters are technologically advanced which are basically flying squares close to a Borg Cube. Finally the Cone/Pyramid characters that are basically like spin tops that use their shape to dig and smash while spinning, they are a warrior people who focus in their weapons and armor above all else.

The game is based around an evolving storyline that is effected by what you say to each NPC and which shape you choose to use. The choices you have to say to the NPCs will determine what you are; Good, Bad or Neutral. Good is always being humble, apologetic, and naturally a decent "good person"; this direction may give you help with your missions as people tend to "like" you (easy mode). Bad is the funny A-Hole of the game that says the most obscene things to everyone, no matter who they are; in this direction people will not help you as much or at all in figuring out the quests and how to complete them (hard mode). Neutral is the "stupid" side of the storyline as people both do not like you and want to help you because of your, insane lack of intelligence (moderate mode).

There will be much more to the game but I shall not reveal everything just yet, I intend to focus on parts of the game to reduce any kind of "snowballing" and other concerns that were made by posters. Also it will be much faster for each area if everyone is contributing to focused maps, which everything will be broken down in the next post. That being said, refer to the 2nd post for examples, descriptions and more about what is needed for the Blob character's area, imagination and creativity a MUST.

Here is a list of positions we have on the team, and another one following for positions needed.

~::Member Positions::~

    1 UV Texture Artist
    1 Texture Artist
    2 Writers
    2 Voice Over Actors
    1 C++ Coder
    1 BGE "Specialist"
    3 Map Artists
    2 Prop Designers
    1 Soundtrack Artist
    1 Website Designer

----+++Needed Positions+++----

    1 Folly Artist
    1 Experienced Python User
    1 Experienced Texture and UV Artist
    1-5 Modelers (Map & Props)

Modelers do not have to be that experienced using blender as you can learn tricks along the way and can practice while getting focused critique.

Anyone wanting to join the group project just give me a PM and ask for more details if you want, just send me a couple examples of what you have done and what area you would like to apply for.

Looking forward to more project members!!

::::Examples::::

ENVIRONMENT-MUSHROOM-PLANT EXAMPLES:

CRYSTAL EXAMPLES - A MUST SEE!
http://s681.photobucket.com/albums/vv17 ... 0Examples/

::::Props::::

Use screenshots or renders to upload and share with the project team!

If you use any kind of file sharing software be sure to also upload the "finished" version of the prop and have a download link under your example render/screenshot.

Props will be used for lighting, interaction and scenery so keep in mind when you are thinking up new models if you could have a light in with it, or some kind of glow around them. For example; glowing mushrooms, crystal formations, root systems, roots larger than trees, etc.

Use examples shown in development of your props! Send them in, keep them relatively low poly, and if you know how to sculpt make sure you give us the finnished product of what you want to impress us with!

::::Maps/Areas/Levels::::

Use either many screenshots or simply upload and share with the project team, make sure we can see a great example if you choose to use screens/renders!!!

Uploaded files will be looked over when sufficient screens/renders are supplied when posting your addition to the game!!

Maps will be generally used throughout the game as basic maps, mroe complex maps and unique maps will be used for major parts of the game.

Areas are maps and levels linked together to create an entire "area" of the game, these "areas" are focused to the characters own type of shape and is made around most of these examples.

Levels will be included after the level creator will be finished, levels will be used for mini-games and more!!

WORK UPDATE:

- We are finishing up the crystals and importing all the finished models we have created so far into the first couple stages which will be touched up and ready for much more including houses, buildings, structures that will all be out of your mind while traveling on them.

- Other props that are being developed use physics for the puzzles to complete each starting mission, this part will be a large amount of our resources as we will need to make enough puzzle props to keep it new and fresh!

- Colors, lights, layout and more will be constantly changing throughout development as whatever we think would be the greatest look to the character would be.

- Were also developing a "teaser" trailer video on youtube, were on the start of developing a cinematic which will also tell more about the Blobs and see the approaching mass of Blob that heads towards Geometry Planet.

- HUD is on it's way to being finished we are just getting the IPO's for color change and bars decreasing to the value of the players H/P worked out.

- Moves are designed but are waiting to be implemented into the game which include main puzzle moves such as the 'blob grapple shot' and other attack moves such as the 'blob spike' or the 'radius spike' which is the blob exploding outwards creating spikes and sucking them back in.

- Controlling is complete and so we have started development on many other parts of the game which include dialog system, lock on system and mainly the character and NPC reaction/interaction to activate dialog and more.

Been working with Blender for a year or 2 now and plan to fetch a job at the foundation.

Looking forward to seeing you guys on here,

Welcome to The Underground. 8)

I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with.

Goliath is a project member? Expect lots of cool scripting and also a lot of ostentatious behavior. :P

Hey, thanks for the welcome!

So I understand that you are the "Director" of the website? If so its great to be on your site because within one PM I may already have most of our issues solved.

Well feel free to join in yourself if you have Blender experience as I would love to make this a learning experience for everyone who would like to join in on the project, which gets to our next poster.

Hey Ryan,

Well if we can get you to focus in modeling by doing levels, it will take creativity and out of the box concepts for when creating the levels, story areas, and pre-mades "Custom Maps" when we can have content created; hopefully with the help of Goliath. That gets to BGE, as I know Goliath may be willing to help with the project I have no say over what he does, helping people learn is always appreciated though. :D

Private message me here and we will swap e-mails and I will tell you what kinds of things I am looking for (per your experience) with the concept of this game, which will be very intreguing I believe.

Thanks everyone for being on and joining the team!

I'll be posting links at other forums to use this as more of a "hub" for communicating as I have seen some really great video tutorials who have either given shoutouts to blenderunderground or have had the "stamp" in the bottom corner.

Looking forward to expanding the entire Blender experience for other users (and yours truely) as this will be great experience in the long run if anyone who uses Blender and other programs in learn how to make games.

^.^ ::: If this project draws enough team members we will look forward to doing an animation project either after, or while developing Geometry Planet ::: ^.^

---+++Blob Area+++---

Here are some screen shots of the game so far, as you can see it is rather in its starting stage, but there are also other testing .blends; now that Goliath has joined and now that we can get some more people doing more things, I know we will be able to make at least the tutorial areas for each character type.

!!!.blend files from Julian our UV/Texture artist!!!

An example of one of the functions already in place:

Image

An example to let people see the kind of look the movement will be with this character:

Older examples using 2.49b instead of 2.5:

More to come as members are brought into the scene, project members working on each object for both use in the level creator and in story-mode will be asked to add photos of what they have contributed to the project.

Looking forward to getting more props created so if anyone could follow some guidelines for creating resources for anything generally in the game try and use these:

    Blob Area - Slimy, resedue, decayed, dead, moving, alive, organic, tunnels, caves.
    Sphere Area - Spherical, lights, energy, spiritual, organic.
    Square Area - Square-like, floating, moving, technological, metalic, jets, fans.
    Cone Area - Cone-like, spinning, moving, digging, swaying.

Anyone looking to make some props such as trees, rocks, mushrooms, plants, flowers, etc. just tell me you would like to work on them and which area you would like to start with and we will get you modeling and creating resources!!

Looking forward to seeing these maps filled, and more maps created!!

Hi there, I am JF alias Goliath.

I'm a specialist of this game engine, slowly starting to work on it.
If you have any idea on what would improve this game engine feel free to tell me.
My role around this game project isn't specific yet, but I might concentrate on the gameplay & behavior of the game.

This forum is a place well hidden from the watchfull eye of The Man,
it's a quite full place filled with greatness and the cream of the blender artists.
(also filled with lot of explosives, but that's just for for Apollos's surprise party :lol: )
So, feel free to go where you want guys & participate in any conversation you find interesting.

also, if you have any question on blender itself, be sure to post it into the general question thread.

@ Etertay

I listened to your sound track Etertay and I must say it's pretty great.
what software do you use to create such great music ?

SHSHHHHHHHHTTTTTTT

You're already wasting my pride !!! :lol:

gonna have to compensate with more ostentatious behavior :lol:

I hope this game project will go far.

Have a good day guys

ha.

well nice found.

we still need to clarify what the game is all about.

having such kind of level would look really cool of course,
but it also a require a massive amount of work & skills to get it right.

I would have no prblem doing such level myself, it sure looks like it would be very fun.
(until I need to reduce the poly count Image)
yet, it might be not what is needed to make this game fun.
Playing some files, I noticed that playing with the blob was more interesting in smaller areas.

btw, Any idea on what is the goal of the game ?

Gimme a concept drawing of a level and ill make it, of course it will not be to scale cuz i might make it tiny lol so it would have to be scaled up to go with the blob
