In an effort to reconnect with this awesome community, il try and maintain a topic describing my current works.

The game being the subject of this topic is called "Sacrifice of a hero".

as you can see by the name of this topic, I am optimist as usual.

Game mechanic :
- the game take place into an Asian looking ancient fortified town (just so you know).
- enemies break into the town, player kill enemies.
- the game only end by the death of the player (always, thus the title).
- enemies never stop coming, and this, in greater number or strength (or even smarter) every wave.
- the player fight enemies by the use of his fist/ weapons / trowable items scattered around the map (boxes, pots, he can even trow enemies at other enemies)
- you see your character from the 3PS view.
- the peasants of the town are all locked into their houses (the houses are barricaded too).
- the game is played using only a keyboard or a gamepad (yell all you want)

Screenshots :

That is all the visual content we have so far

Image

The game so far :

Sacrifice of a hero - 42 - Launcher Sketched.zip

Controls :
- ASDW or arrows to move
- Space to jump
- Numpad 0 to grab / trow stuff
- Key 1 - 2 - 3 to add stuff to scene
- Key 4 to delete stuff
- Key R to restart the game
- Key C to switch resolution
- Numpad 9 switch wireframe mode on/off.

Current development task (due 2015-01-01) :

- Artificial intelligence

Last feature added (2011-10-19) :

- Collision layers (masks) :
Stuff don't collide necessarily with anything anymore. By example, upon breaking a jar it will be automatically replaced by smaller pieces of that jar that will only collide with the ground or the buildings (cannot collide with characters).

Feel free to comment, and if you want to help, you are welcome to do so, il add whatever you give me in the game instantly if it merge enough with the rest of the game.
...but keep in mind this project isn't gonna reach completion ever.
...so just try and have fun.

What kind of game is it beside a wave based game (by the sounds of it), will it be top down, fps, 3ps?
Also are you using the BGE or any other software?

- It is in 3D
- You see your character from the 3PS view
- Softwares used for art & desing are as choosen by the autor.
- The blender game engine is not used other than for testing purposes.
- Irrlicht is used for rendering and Inputs.
- Bullet physic is used for physic simulation

(so basically no "game engine" is being used, beside the one I create)

Thanks you for your interrest bogieman987.

Sounds a bit like Crimson Land an old top down 2D shooter where you just survive waves and waves of aliens. No escape, just death.

So I really think your project sounds like a great idea. I don't know if there is anything I can do to help? Since Irrlicht is a C++ graphics module, I am just so armature at C++ :(

I would love to help out here and there.
Also, what about UDK?

It's funnier to create game engines than to use them.

If you want to help, there is much to be done since no visual content exist yet.

What I need range from characters to building and random items.

If you feel like modelling a complete animated character tell me first and il give you more precision, but that is unlikely to happen.

On the other hand if you can think of an object that could be fun trowing (boxes, plants pots, and the like) just go ahead and model them.

again, thanks you for you interrest guys, il keep you posted on my work as it gets done.

Ok guys, i'm making a nice quick low poly (102 vert, is that low enough?) baseball bat.
I'll uploade to Blend Swap when i'm done.

I am good with random items but as I recall you said, "the game take place into an Asian looking fortified town". Are you talking old Asia (Empirical), modern Asia (cell phones and TV), or steam punked (a clash of both)?

It is ancient (description updated ty jack).

...so a baseball bat doesn't fit extremely well both from the fact that baseball doesn't sound "ancient" a lot and it is quite unknown or unpopular from asian culture.

....but since I have near to Zero content for my game so far, il take all I can have (so baseball bat is great idea).
...of course as the game get closer and closer to optimal failure, we'll replace the objects that don't fit well with more suited objects.

...but again this game isn't ever gonna reach a state where so much stuff is done that we need to replace so just go ahead and model what comes to your mind.

oh, and have fun.

ps : doing random items is actually the funniest task avaiable (IMO),
but if you feel like you have the time & skill & will to contribute to a failing project, characters would be nice too.

Wait, so it's based in ancient asia, not modern asia with ancient asia style buildings? lol
Because, if it is modern asia, a baseball bat would still fit, what other very cheap thing are people going to use to defend themselves lol

The bat could easily be used as a basic melee object for testing purposes though.

Edit: Here you go guys, a low poly baseball bat, enjoy lol

Edit: Here is a video, so you can see it without having to download it.

Well I have a bridge and a pagoda. I am looking through weapons and miscellaneous junk for stuff that looks Empirical. I will PM you with a download link. I am also digging through my resources of generic textures as well. I will store everything either in original format or convert to OBJ. Any preferred format for textures?

----
Never mind I got the PM about PNG format.

png for now would be good.

il compress it myself to jpeg later when there is a need to reduce the game's size at the cost of quality.

Wow that is an awesome looking bat !

Thanks you kind bogieman987, I look forward to include that in the game.

Il do my very best to upload the game tomorrow so you guys can see how fun (or lame) it is to trow stuff around with a completely non-animated character.

...which I do find fun.

ahhh what the hell,

here it is :

http://www.mediafire.com/?52rm8505hkuqkmc

Controls are as follow :

- ASDW or arrows to move
- Numpad 0 to grab / trow stuff
- Key 1 - 2 - 3 to add stuff to scene
- Key 4 to delete stuff
- Key R to restart the game
- Key C to switch resolution

There is a "Map.txt" on top of the game's folder, use it to add your own meshes to the game.

There is a never ending count of flaws in this game, thanks to tell me the flaws you see that you think aren't there just cuz I'm lazy.

PS : your bat is big, don't worries, il scale it when I have a sec. For now it's just fun.

PPS : the meshes you trow will behave weirdly (going trough walls, overbouncing etc) it is normal and will be corrected when I have time to fine tune the objects you send me (as well as thoses I already added)

Ok Goliath, I will be sending you some more this weekend. I just got done modeling a noodle cart.

Image

Besides getting this textured, I am also working on peasant and commoner outfits. If you can't animate the running about in panic, just have them sit idle as your hero does all the work. :D
