If you've seen this past summer's 'Transformers' movie, then you're probably familiar with the scene towards the end of the film where Bumblebee reaches for the All Spark and it transforms/converts to a much smaller cube.

During the transformation it appears as if the All Spark is composed of several thousand cubes; well my question is: how could one animate a cube in Blender to do the same? Would you use Blender's array modifier or a series of modifiers?

Thanks!

Probably dupliverts. A pretty clear little explanation is here:

Dupliverts, array or particles can all do this I think, dunno which one is the best, though.
