@Goliath

Your argument is invalid.
I could have windows 7 for free (no hack, this is a particularity from my university, whatever microsoft does, we have free access, including OS).

.....you dont choose win 7 - it chooses you. Looked at a new desktop or
laptop lately?

Yet, I don't use 3dsmax nor do I want to. Directx11 is cool, but I can live without it easily.

... doesnt sound like your in touch with the 3d industry pro jobs.

... directx11 card

.... got Cudas? If you want to render faster than a slugs butt you do.

whut ?

I'm a university student in mechanical engineering.
I am not looking for a job in virtual arts.

There is a lot of nice pub about directx 11, I don't argue with that, all I say is that I don't need it.
Even if my pc was supporting it, I would most probably turn all that crap off to enjoy better performance.

I haven't heard that Cuda drivers weren't compatible with XP, at a point that my butt would be bothered.
But even if it was, I don't think I have any software able to use that technology anyway.

btw, what is CUDA lol ?
Is anyone using this here ?

@Goliath:

I am using the cuda features quite a lot actually.

As for Cards i really cant recommend much more then a nVidia card. Most integrated video cards are total crap. good for the basics but a poor choice when facing gaming for heavy Graphical work in either 2D or 3D. If you can afford it, i would suggest you try and get something in the 7 or 8 Family of the GForce Line.

Blender has never really run poorly on any of the windows version I've ever used. It likely more an issue of Hardware and Drivers then it is software builds and Operating systems.

the thing to remember is with Computers parts, you really do get what you pay for. If you buy Generic or lesser grade brands and chip sets, you'll get just that. Lesser grade performance. Keep this in mind when you buy new parts for your machine.

blender has a fairly wide range when it come to hardware configurations. If you can run your favorite video games fairly well cracked up, you really have nothing much to worry about.

Take it from both a Blender and an Autodesk Maya user. both run really good but blender run a few thing much faster then maya does.

your main question should be this. what do i want to get out of my machine? set a benchmark, such as run crisis fair cranked up. then assemble the needed parts to make this happen. if you can run crisis fairly well, blender will most likely run like a dream for you.

I've been rocking this rig for a few years now and I have yet to come across a game i could not Crank up to the highest Quality lever and get good solid frame frame of 60 Frames or more.
