Quake 4 is a interesting game. Since I Already reviewed Doom 3, I figured I might as well review Quake 4 being the same engine.

If you have not read my Doom 3 Review. No fears. I'll sum up the points i want to make...

Doom 3 is:

1. No duct Tape in all of the mars base to stick your flashlight onto your weapons.
2. Way too dark almost everywhere.
3. PDA hunting gets long and annoying at time but with some rewards.

Quake 4 is different yet partly the same.

First the Story Line:

After the Strogg invasion (Quake Wars) and then the turn of the war when we take the fight to the Strogg on their (Quake 2)

For some reason Quake 1 and 3 are just plain weird and are not really part of the main Quake Storyline while quake 1 started the series I refuse to believe that quake 1 is Part of the Strogg vs. Humans war.

Any ways The events of the First game was a bout when the Humans came very close to failure until one Marine with the greatest turn of fortune get through the shielding, and takes down a major figure of of the Strogg inner government.

Having Deactivated the Force field that kept the bulk of the fleet off planet, Here enters the Marines from Quake 4.

You are Matthew Kane, a bad ass marine and Hero of the earth chapters of the Strogg invasion. The Force field just went down, thats to that single marine from Quake 2 it now maybe an hour after that and then Marines are storming the planet like The US Armed forces stormed the beach in WW2 style.

But on the approach, your are shot down. Amazingly a good portion of your team and you are still alive and are even holding you own. It's now the ground ponders war on the planet side.

This is the first Quake where Solo Operations is not the idea. However it AI Co-op squad based game play. Still the AI is fairly smart and can be of real use.

AI and all aside, Lets talk about the Game engine.

Okay people this is a First Person Shooter. This is standard fair for the most part. Nothing really new here. Moving around is pretty much the same as almost any other 3D FPS out there. The goals are pretty much the same. Nothing new here guys.

Quake 4 uses the awesome yet dated doom3 Engine for it rendering and logic management.

Gone is the Constant PDA hunting. Gone no more. Also being Vulnerably because the flashlight is only used to either shine light or smack people is gone. there are two weapons that are equipped with A flashlight. Yes that right Equipped with a light.

These two weapons are a energy pistol that recharges it self so that you never run out of ammo but is fairly weak. and the other is the universally useful assault rifle which honest I went through most of he game using this great well balanced weapon.

The Game Unlike Doom3 is actually very well lighted and can seem a good deal of the time. it's not totally dark like doom 3 was mostly.

The squad based AI is actually good. I found my self cheering on my Fellow marines when they Kicked much ass. and Loved my time of it.

There are some shocking scenes, but this was more of an action Sci-fi game rather then a Horror game. Much of the scary stuff Doom 3 assaulted the player with was avoided in this game because it just wouldn't fit.

The Idea of what Matthew Kane must be come later in the game in order to win was a cool point of view. He eventually has to be come partly one of the enemy. Matthew Kane is captured, the Strogg use our captured to make their army out of. Just before fully activated but pretty much one of them in body, Matthew Kane is rescued.

The plan is now, Matthew Kane can get into places the unaltered humans can not and let his fellow Marines in to cause a lot of chaos.

at point the game seemed refreshing and pumping full of action and cool sights to see. filled in with a lot of cool things to do. After a while however there are times that this is a do it, finish and repeat in a couple of places.

Some of the game is about back tracking and getting lost as well. but these are actually not as bad as it sounds.

It's fairly easy to get around the levels and keep from getting totally lost. however there is a bit of a challenge.

Heres where my review takes it's turn in another direction. The Game it self is awesome, the story is cool and the game play is fairly solid if just a little redundant.

heres what I do when I start to play a game. I usually start any game cranking up the difficulty level to see how hard it will be and lower it until I get a difficult that balance fun with a challenge.

The sad thing is. I played the game at it hardest level. Without cheating and died out side of a cut scene only 6 or 7 times my first run. after my 4th run I don't even get close to death's door now.

So thats really it actually.

Oh this is one of the Lowest reviews I've ever given a game. it's both a 9 out of 10 for cool but a 4 out 10 for challenge. I'm half thrilled and half disappointed with this games showing...
