There have been a lot of Zombies out there, especially in the past few years. Movies, Comic Book, Video Games and Print Books are popping up featuring my favorite cinematic monster. That being the Undead. But up until recently, there have been no Zombies centered TV shows made.

this Halloween, all that changed. The walking dead, a comic book series of the same name as the TV show has been made into a Episodic TV series and it is actually very well done.

what makes the living dead such an interesting story to follow is that it's the on going thing. most zombie movies get 90 minutes to tell their story from start to finish, and it's usually about the danger of the moment. You don't get to look at their overall survival a week down the line, a month, a year later. This series, you do. It's survival Horror on going.

You the viewer are following the day to day issues of living in an undead world, where the living are out numbered 1000 to 1 or more by the bodies of the dead that want to eat the living. This is fairly standard Zombie stuff here, but the story is not about the inhumanity of the zombies but more about the fragile balance of those who still live. About what they have to do to survive, and seek protection in any way shape or form.

Visually this show is well done, It looks a lot like the comic book series. the cast is awesome and they really fit the characters as was layout in the printed series. Rick Grimes is a very sympathetic character. he has marital issue, he's as mortal as you and me and other then being a Sherrif's deputy, he is no superman, and that what makes him such a great character. He is an everyman that you can really cheer for his achievements.

Episode One on AMC really nailed home that this was a zombie series.

One of the things I noticed was the lack of mood setting music. they had music in the show, and yes it did set the moods the director was trying to convey, but there are a lot of scenes that only environmental sound could be herds. the winds, the dripping of water, the clinking of chains, the slight drown of a zombie in the distance.

This set me unnerved and not sure if I should expect a zombie to reach out or if it's all safe. This was an good move if you ask me.

All and all the TV show while not exactly the same story, is a very well made, and really does follow along with the idea that is the walking dead fairly faithfully.

I give this Show a 10 out of 10.

Being in australia, this tv show hasn't been aired on local channels. But I really loved the comic book, and wanted to see how they would treat a film version. ... Enter torrent websites and a few downloads later, I was quite enjoying the series. /guilty admission.

However, I found the pacing to be a little off. Granted, the good thing about a comic is you can absorb it at your own pace. Dwelling on pages or skimming dialogue, etc. But the opening couple of episodes in the series were quite drawn out. I feel like if I had to sit through advertisements as well, it might not have been worth it. Which is a bit of a sad thing, because anyone unfamiliar with the story line, and how intricate and well thought out the relationships are, might not have the patience to stick by the characters in those opening sequences.

I actually watched through the season with a friend, and once we hit episode 6, we went back to ep 1 again. Her comment was, the first time around, it seemed very drawn out. But after being with the characters for so long, she could see how necessary it was to set up these relationships.

Yes, I will be buying the dvd when it is released (to add to my collection alongside the comics). But my sincere hope is they can continue the delicate balance of character study and action adventure they were achieving in the later half of the series into season 2.

Last I heard, they fired all the writers from season one anyway, so who knows what'll be happening next season.

So yes, I fully agree with Ninja Krow, on a 10/10 as far as story and visuals is concerned ... the editing, however, could've been improved.

Setting up the characters is very important for a drawn out Series such as this. In six episodes, we get a lot of set up for the next round of shows which is going to happen from what i have heard. As for slow paced, yeah i agree, but i actually enjoyed that part. I don't feel rushed.

I watched the first season. I liked it. Better than some of the zombie movies from the 80s. Talking about some of the bad Romero cheap copycats. Wonder when the 2nd season is coming out? They didn't cancel is right? I still want to figure out about that guy that was handcuffed on the roof is up to lol.

They were holding a contest during the first season to get a walk on roll as a zombie. If they were doing that then they likely had not started shooting the 2nd season while the first season was airing (or at least not completely done). I doubt they are going to cancel a 2nd season after holding a contest to be in then 2nd season, just going to take awhile.

If you can't wait I hear the show is staying pretty true to the comic book that inspired it (word for word in most cases I have heard) so you can always read the comic book. Personally I am staying away from the comic so not to ruin the show.

I didnt know about the contest. Maybe they showed it during commercial but I wouldn't know because I just downloaded the episodes. Seems like its taking a while to get to a 2nd season though. Maybe they think its a better idea to run the show just around Halloween so more people watch it or because its a hard show to make. Thats my best guess.

ya the contest was announced just before commercials. At the end of every episodes there was a word displayed. Every word you had gave you another chance of being picked.

Second Season will be out as far as I know roughly the same time as The first. Around about Halloween. It's more of a on running mini series then a full fledged TV show with nearly 20 episodes each season.

REAL QUICK EDIT:

Second season is slated for 13 episodes a single episode more then double of the first season.

Thanks for the info. I agree it is more of like a mini series and very well made. I am thinking they will speed up the story in the 2nd season also.

According to the Writers Director and Producers. The idea is to in spirit follow the progression of the Comic books. That is not to say they follow the Comics frame for frame. But the progression. One year at a time. That means there are a few years worth of story they could be doing.

Next. The basic rule, not set in stone but pretty much accurate. Standard comic book format allows for 30 minutes TV episodes for an entire issue. Like screen plays its a page a minute.

Last year. We got 6 one hour episodes. Which means with 13 Episodes slated for this season. They may actually be drawing out and exploring the story a bit more.
