You say that like its a bad thing... ever wonder about the security patches that windows releases in the same time frame?

The bugs themselves weren't an overly huge deal. I'm glad the team was on them quickly.

Overall, I'm enjoying the new Gimp. I'm finding things are faster to process and ... what's this? The blending is getting better! Gradients are nicer too. I did some smudging last night to correct some inconsistencies, and it was a dream! I was having problems before getting smudge to work nice.

I agree... I think that the gradients are better and the brush dynamics are nice as well.

I wonder if anyone would consider starting a Gimp Underground? I'd love some beginner tutorials in the same vein as the Blender ones we have here. What d'ya reckon, Darth_Gimp? :D :D :D

Funny you should mention that:

I have been building the BULE (Blender Underground ColLABorative Environment). One of the features I would like to add in the near future is a series of support forums that focus on tools other than Blender. GIMP just happens to be one of those tools. I know that as we make our Animations, Games, and Web Comics we are going to need to use a tool like GIMP to create textures, touch up frames after the final rendering, add effects to the compositing pass and other things that GIMP would be useful for. If someone wanted a sub-forum to moderate under the main BULE forum that was dedicated completely to GIMP I would be willing to set that up. It does not have to become permanent, but it would give "GIMP Underground" a place to start and give my site some much needed GIMP support. If and when the moderators of the GIMP sub-forum decided that they wanted to move their operation elsewhere, there would be no hard feelings from my end. I can always keep a link alive to where ever GIMP Underground gets moved.
Let me know if you like that idea

OK here is a really embarassing question -> what happened to the dialogs option? it just disappeared! But dialogs are still there well I think, you have to click on those little magic triangles as best I can tell. Does anyone else find this disturbing or am I just being an old codger again?

For the moment I am the lead Admin over at http://www.gimpdome.com so I am not certain that a Gimp Underground would be much different.

That said, I had mentioned to other staff members on that forum the idea of a Gimp Underground before Blender Underground existed... It would have been for works not commonly seen on Gimp Dome.

*edited out bitter feelings that are swelling up*

I would be interested in helping people understand Gimp if they want. No I probably won't be able to offer video tuts that compare with Apollos' since his are freakin awesome.

There was a question about dialogs... I never use them. Which were you looking for? Much of the old gimp has been integrated so its there just in a more intuitive spot... I find that the new setup offers a smooth workflow once you get comfortable with the changes.

I see. I have no experience with GIMP other than installing it. At this point any kind of tutorial would be a step up for me. The video tutorials would be a great addition, but they are time consuming. A well built series of Text tutorials with lots of pictures would be almost as effective. In order to create a series, however, that covers as much ground as Apollos' and in as much detail would be several installments long. It would probably come together as chapters of a small book for each topic, since all the description required to make up for the lack of spoken word and visuals would be quite considerable.

I admin over at Gimp Dome as well, and I know I have had discussions with the site owner about having an 'underground' GD for a few years now. Somehow, it just never came about.

But now the site owner has taken a leave due to life and has given Darth pretty much free reign over the site.

The current GD Forum is 'light' Goliath because that is the default for the SMF software. The site owner was actually working on a custom skin for it. I will be taking over that shortly.

Please...
Leave a 'Gimp Underground' to Darth and I... as we've already invested a few years into Gimp Dome and are currently moving to make changes.

Look under 'Windows' menu option... Check out 'Dockable Dialogs' ... is that what you're looking for?

They will also all be 'docked' here

And don't be embarrassed to ask... GIMP did indeed shuffle some things around.

Please let me know if this is what you're looking for...
