Kerkythea 2008
(My favorite)
(Up to date for blender 2.49)

Here's some previews :

Here's how to get it :

1) download & install Kerkythea on your killing machine ***LINK***
2) kill something with your killing machine (a zombie or two) ***LINK***
3) Add these patch to your blender application (Overwrite everything)
***LINK***
***LINK***

if you're using Linux, there's a steps more for you but it depend your version of linux...
Take a look **HERE**

IMPORTANT NOTICE : Kerkythea as his own 3D application. Not too complex, but it's enought so you can import into Kerkythea what you did in blender. Also, since the new version of Kerkythea, I fear the patch "blender 2kt" could be a little bit deprecated, so using Kerkythea's interface might be the only way to get the most advanced functions of Kerkythea 2008 (but I might be wrong). Still, Kerkythea's interface is really clean and easy to understand.

And here some Tutorials :

An issue of Blender-Art-Magazine is also talking about this one.

From autor's website wrote:
Kerkythea is a standalone renderer, using physically accurate materials and lights, aiming for the best quality rendering in the most efficient timeframe. The target of Kerkythea is to simplify the task of quality rendering by providing the necessary tools to automate scene setup, such as staging using the GL real-time viewer, material editor, general/render settings editors, etc., under a common interface.

The development of the Kerkythea (KT) application began in September (2004) without having much time to invest on the application at that time. The good thing, is that it started with the kernel and libraries of Phos (an older render engine), so a big part of the source code was already tested and well structured.

It took more than half a year before Kerkythea was finally born (April 2005)! In that phase, the first users were not so many but there were enthusiasts that joined my efforts and gave substantial feedback. Seeing that a general weakness of other render engines was the lack of an interface, I decided to make a turn and enhance the user interface even more. The enhanced version was based on Fox toolkit, with the additional benefit of KT becoming platform independent (October 2005).

Reaching now the 3rd year of development and gaining popularity, I want to believe that KT can now be considered among the top freeware/open source renderer engines and can be used for both academic and commercial purposes. In the beginning of 2007, we have a strong and rapidly growing community and a new site that is more “alive” than ever!

After one more year of development we have reached a new release at the end of January 2008. A very powerful release with lots of improvements. Kerkythea has grown constantly over the last year, growing into a standard rendering application among architectural studios and extensively used within educational institutes. Of course there are a lot of things that can be added and improved. But we are really proud of reaching a high quality and stable application that is more than usable for commercial purposes with an amazing zero cost!

ok I am looking at and following the KT video tutorial where the dude has you make a floor and three spheres. He does not tell you where to get the KT exporter, but he uses it and gives no other option to export the scene for use in KT. That's rather frustrating.

So, where do I get the exporter for Blender 2.49 in Ubuntu?

EDIT: NVM KT seems like a hassle.. I'll stick to LUX and Yafaray.

thus....

***blender2KT pour Ubuntu 7.10***

and ...

***blender2KT pour Ubuntu 8.04***

no shame pal, but you shall know better than me that, when trying
an external render-er, the first step is obviously to look at the gallery
of the application (Which is pretty much impressive from what I gathered
for you above) and than, if you like what you see, the second step is
definitively not to abandon and ran away.

Kerkythea is one of the fastest render-er out there (if not "The" fastest).
And it can produce heck of an high range of top of the nutch effects.

I'm not saying it's the best crap you'll ever find, but it's definitively worth some headaches

wow that's far !

blender 2.5 might even be out at this date :P

still, kerkythea for windows isn't working either.
big bunch of crap if you ask me,

but il find what's the problem,
there got to be a solution to bypass the complete
incompetence of the ones who did the exporter
...or the ones who wrote about how the exporter work
...or maybe both, i'm really pissed and would injure them all anyway

ARARGRAGRGRGRG !

ok I looked at teh blender2kt.. its a forked version of blender.. not what I want.

In the video tutorial, the exporter he used was under File > Export

I can't seem to find an answer and I really don't want to sign up to yet another forum... y'know?

I understand,

well I think... :P

anywho,

After swearing & crying & yelling for about an hour,
I switched to "attempt to make yafaray work" instead.

somehow, I just continiued swearing & crying & yelling after another external...
but after an hour of suicidal though, I finally made it work
(seriously, I was just like "omg.... it... it work.... what the hell did I do diferent this time ? nothing ??!?!? why it's working this time ??!?!?!!? what is this ?!?!?!)

anywho, it now work and it is damn CTRL+U - ed
so now, each time Il open blender, there will be this little
script at bottom right of my monitor asking me :
Do you want to kill the house and make an external render of it ? :D
...than I will surely say : OF COURSE ! L'ETS OWWN THEM ALL !!! :D :D :D

...seriously, I just can't figure out why it's working, but fiiinnnaaalllyyy, something is working today
