about 4 hours of work. I have never attempted a car before and I have found it to be a lot harder then I thought it would. I'm trying to make things small nowadays as I have become too friendly with sub surf. I am going to try and keep my vert count under 1500 and I am at just over 600 now so I should be able to make it.

Image

Its a bit rough right now but once I am done and apply the mirror I can hit smooth a few times to make it... well... smoother.

So you are doing a car in the minding of not using any subsurf ?

Sound challenging,
Good luck with that.

I may not finish in time as I'm going to try something new to finish all this off. Hopefully without it getting to complicated I want to take my first attempt at a good UV texture using my new Photoshop.

Well it is a awesome sounding challenge, honestly though if my cars didnt have SS enabled they'd probably look like sh*t lol i depend i SS alot for car modeling, also dont hit smooth too much or it might turn into a ball lol

Smooth will work fine with a car,

I tried it with my cooper for fun and it worked.
I didn't went too far with this since it wasn't smoothing the way I wanted.
The Subsurf give me a better control.

On another side, I strongly believe that the quality of the model is far
from being as important as the render technique.

But its usualy the render technique and compositing that sells the car lol, but i agree the quality is much better, i guess it would be awesome to have good things in all parts lol

I meant :

Quality of the mesh = a little bit important
Rendering techniques = VERY MUCH MUCH MORE IMPORTANT & IN BOLD CAPS.

but that' just how I see it from my mesh being quite good, yet my renders being almost painful to look at.

Alright I have my mesh finished and I beat my goal and im quite happy about it. 1305 Verts and 1387 Faces later

Image

and because my goal was to keep a somewhat clean mesh with low poly here is the wireframe.

Image

texturing is next but that can wait till tomorrow. have to be up early tomorrow and I don't want to loss track of any more time and end up working till 2 in the morning.

i would say that is with subsurf on the mesh. if your doing 500,000 by hand, you have some issues.... its probably closer to a few thousand w/o subsurf

Alright got back to work on this project and now i have the UV faces laid out to what i consider good for a first try. Never done this before and for what the unwrap gave me I think i did a good job.
