It's been a very long while since I last played risk. 15 years to be exact. tonight one of my housemates Busted out the old risk board and wouldn't you know it, I was rolling dice and loosing my mind, and troops, all over again. But I made them pay for it dearly I truly did....

This game is rather deceptively simple to play but like chess is difficult to truly master the tactics and strategies needed to win. you goal is to take as much territory as you can, take over entire countries and ultimately the whole world. not as easy as it sounds, and games can last a good long time if everyone is equally skilled. Our game lasted nearly 3 hours...

Honestly I had a good time playing Risk and eventually I lost, but I didn't loose angry...

As a classic I would have to score Risk a 9 out of 10. It passed the test of time spanning 53 years, having been expanded and re adjusted and remade over and over again. Few games can claim the same...

risk is a really fun game but no one wants to play because ti takes to long. the difference between risk and chess is that every turn you get more troops.

I hate risk.

I mean, I love it, but I hate it a lot because of the whole luck thing.

Fact is that if I am playing a luck game, and if my winning/lost is related to luck in any way, I might loose close to 99.99999 % of the time.

...the .00001% remaining is when I start cheating :P

And I am not kidding.

I remember all those stupid fight in which I would have 20 soldiers against 10, yet not succeeding to win the territory... than a computer with about 11 soldiers would run over a territory of mine defending using 10 soldier... and guess what, the computer win, of course, but don't only win, he win with barely 2 - 3 casualties.

It would be "fun" or kind hilarious if such thing could happen only once in a while, but when I play, it just happen ALL THE DAMN TIME.

argagrgrg !

I hate that game.

sorry for this ranting.

It has been years for Risk for me too but have you tried the electronic version? It is online which means that even if you only have yourself that wants to play there are others to play against. Google it and you'll see.

Well I used to enjoy risk. Not played it for a long time, though.
@Goliath: Isn't your 3d-dice-war-game like risk? :wink:

Don't wink at me dude, I worked for about 3 months on that game, I had plenty of time to realise that.

but as you may understand, I made sure the random script was fair.

...& I still loose all the time.

stupid randomness.

I know of one place people play Risk a lot. Hours in fact. County jail. I have heard (never been inside yet) that since they have long periods with nothing to do, they play Risk because it is so time consuming. The one place people need to pass the time, they play that and Monopoly.

I know people who have been inside for a variety of reasons.

It's not that big of a deal to get into jail... It when you go to prison that you have to worry. Good thing I've never been there... Good that my trips to jail where for minor things...

Pub intox - Canada... Apparently that very hard to do...
Vagrancy - I was homeless once, not something I would recommend.

there was this one time on leave in Mexico that me and a few of my army buddies got locked up. We have a very good time before that, and even while in waiting for our CO. I'm not saying that all official in Mexico are corrupt, but they saw three men having a good time and saw targets for extortion. had we been in uniform, they would have left us alone. they don't want to risk an incident.

the rest of my time was Pub intox, several time in Colorado. I don't drink more then a beer or two every few months or so now so that hasn't happened in a long time.

I'm not proud of my time spend in jail, just that I've been there a few times. the longest stay was a week because I could not pay my fine and I arranged that with the judge.

I've never even seen the inside of a police station much less a jail (or prison). The only reason I even go to a courthouse is to see the County Commissioners. Heck, I've never even had a ticket in my long life. I guess that explains my security clearance. God this is depressing.... :P

Off Topic:
Currently I have 2 friends in county and 1 or both going back to prison. He was out on parole after being inside 3 years and got caught at his girl friends apartment where she had a gun in the drawer. We are waiting to see what happens on that one. The girl friend is in county as well for the same charge (felony firearm) she was on probation for a drug charge.

My friends are so... screwed. He is looking at 12 more years max if she doesn't fess up to the judge about not knowing the gun was there. If she does that she is still looking at 1 to 3 in prison.

On Topic:
I am going to buy them both a Risk game and shoot them up to them. They are both nice people and from my knowledge never hurt anyone. They just keep doing stupid crap to themselves.

I agree, generally people in Jail are some of the nicest most good nature people you'll ever meet... just just brake a law or two.

there is a reason for the laws most of the time. Never judge some one as bad just because they went to prison or jail. you'll never know the full story anyways.

I like Risk. The new version has added optional objectives.. basically these allows the game to be won with more strategy than just TAKE OVER THE WHOLE WORLD.
