So how about waterwashed Chromite? It's harder than steel (m5.5), has a submetalic luster, and often has a grainy appearance.
You should really measure this thing's specific gravity. It's bugging me now. :)

I'm gonna stick to flintstone with porphyry in it theory...

Edit:

Ok maybe not flintstone - but silica then..with porphyry in it.

Vinnie, Flint is glassy and has a conchoidal* fracture pattern, the Jedi's rock is grainy under the surface. Also, porphyry?? That's reddish/light brownish, almost like pink granite, no? But rocks do vary around the world, so maybe they're different where you live.

* smooth, rounded break patterns like a huge lump of glass. Check out this, and this.

Chromite would be magnetic wouldn't it. If I had a scale i would weight if for you all I know is its way heavier then a normal rock would be. I realy do not see a cow picking it up in there mouth they don't eat rocks lol. So I was thinking it had to come in through the feed we poured in the trough.

Well, it says it's slightly magnetic*, not sure how strong that is. Maybe it's too weak to pick up. :? I dunno.
