I have remodelled the forward hull of my destroyer and IMO it's a vast improvement. I had to go back to an earlier, undeited version of the basic hull as I can't replicate the hull shape easily. I know I started with a sphere and scaled it along various axises....

I made the improvement's by subsurfing and then cutting off the top and bottom layers, then re extruding new under and top sides. As I extruded I scaled the extruded surface's inner edge to match the sections it was mating too as closely as possible.

I'd like to work on the middle section but sursurfing it the way I did the front seems to raise the vert count to a level my computer starts chugging.

I've also reduce the armor panels along the nose to make them look more smooth. Not my problem in the torpedo tubes. I can't edge split them anymore as much of the hull is marked sharp. Ans ideas? I'll upload the new improved (except the the torpedo tubed" files later, too hot and tired now.

That's the file.

Ths is the first time I've worked on the blacksburg for a long time and I think I made some real improvements, I'm debating reworking the rear hull but the very count could get too high. I'm pretty sure I won;t be redoing the engine and power section, that looks good as it. I don;t really know if the mid section needs retooling...

Spacegamer, thanks for the file, it looks pretty good to me - but you are the artist.
I'm just a bit busy at the moment - work is swallowing up all my Blender time. (damn!)
Jab, well spotted with that script, guess I didn't look very carefully before. disregard the PM.

Oh I understand that people have lives and aren;t here just to help me. It;s OK.

I just think the new forwardhull looks a hell of a lot better than the old one, more like the sections mesh together.

I am still not sure about the middle hull. I had to take the sugsurf up to level 2 to get that result on the forward hull, it makes a lot of verts. Let me know if you get to look it over and find any flaws.

Okay. I took a look and it all looks just fine to me, you don't need my approval. :D

Oh, and I have tried out the Fake Knife tool and it WORKS. 8) No snap to vert function but it does straight cuts and that is usable. I will be migrating to 2.59 real soon now. :D

How do you make straight knife cuts in blender 2.5? Wasn't there a key you held to keep the lines straight?

I could not find one. That was one of my great annoyances with it as it is.

Using the Fake Knife script, shift will keep the lines vertical or horizontal.

Profnull was going to respond but couldn't find the right link. Here it is:

http://blenderunderground.com/video-tutorials/

Those tutorials are for an older version of Blender but the principles are the same.
