In my limited time in the last few months I have been working on this scene on and off as I found time, motivation, and inspiration for it.

The scene is supposed to depict a coldwar era Soviet spy after a successful mission to secure highly advanced enemy tech from some research facility.

Some random details:
*One thing I'm quite proud of is the note sheets lying about. I drew those by hand on paper, then then took photos of them so I could use them in Blender. I had someone translate some technical text I gave them into russian which I then copied onto the notes. ловушка для частиц!
*This whole scene began as a simple pistol model. A long time ago I saved reference pictures for This Czechoslovakian pistol in the hope that some day I would know how to model it. So recently I saw the pictures again, figured I would be able to pull it off, so I tried it, and it turned out better than I had hoped! I then made that micro-cam from refs found on ebay, and the rest slowly followed.
*This was my first proper project in Blender 2.6 which I used for pretty much everything including most of the post-processing. Photoshop was used to fix a few artifacts, and to add the border and signature.

This scene could likely still be improved, but for now I am calling it done for now.

Many thanks to BillyMcGuff for rendering the high resolution file for me on his fast PC, and also to all those in the S&D thread on Blender Newbies, as well as those in the Blender Newbies IRC channel for providing input and feedback on ideas and changes made. Thank you! *bows*

Wow, hats off, this looks terrific. I am very impressed of the fact that you drew these technical papers by yourself.
One thing I have to critique though. I don't really like the lamp on the right. It is just grey. Don't know why, but it looks unfinished for me. A clay artifact in your beautiful image.
The leather material is awesome, btw. :D

Thank you Maray, I'll certainly keep your input in mind if I ever get around to changing this scene.
The leather is pretty cool, I used this texture from CgTextures, then overlayed that at some 75% opacity onto a base material color of a similar color to soften the features a little bit. Then I added a nice and 'fluffy' (brownish/greyish) cloud texture at low opacity over everything to break up the (still) overly strong skin patterns on the texture.

The idea for the notebook came from searching flickr for travel related items. I found this notebook ,(also this) (not these exact pictures though) and really liked it. BTW, Christmas is coming up....you know...if someone wants to get me a present...

I see that you came really close to the real leather texture.
So you like to travel a lot and thus you need this notebook. Would indeed make up a nice Christmas gift. I certainly wish you luck, hehe.

And one last thing.. Happy Birthday! :D

Yay! thank you! :)

About the notebook, I travel a bit (between the US, Germany, and Canada) but not nearly as much as I'd like. I just like cool notebooks like moleskins, that notebook up there, and the like. I also love the look of well worn natural brown leather in general. I have this great brown leather cowboy belt which I've had for years. The surface has got this awesome coloring, and the whole thing fits me fantastically....but I'm rambling now.
[edit] that belt looks almost like this one. :D

I'd like to wear that belt too. Surely doesn't fit to a tuxedo, but well.. hehe
Next time you visit Germany, hit me up. :)

Yeah, I usually fly into Frankfurt though I stay in the Bonn area with family.
I'm not planning any the trips in the near future, but as I said, I'll keep you in mind. I already have another Blenderhead in Berlin that I want visit so maybe we should plan a regular Blender Meeting!
