I am trying to make a cut into a sphere using this circle when viewed from the side. As you can see, once it is "cut" then it will be an egg shape kind of thing. Short of making a massively high poly Icosphere, how could I get this cut to be smooth without deforming the shperical aspect of the sphere? :)

(re-uploaded the not-lazy way, hope it works now!)

My first suggestion would be to realine your sphere so that the nature typology flow will work with you instead of against you. If that is not an option then I would the suggest using a boolean operation.

You will need to find a tutorial to fully explain what a boolean operation is if you do not already know. The basic Idea is you will merge a cylinder with your sphere then manually delete the cylinder parts. This will leave you with a circle cut out of the sphere, but your geometry will be pretty ugly and require a lot of work to clean.

I got it! May not be the most efficient but works for me :) I will re-do it since model is out of proportion...

Thank you Chosen, didn't think of using Union or Intersect, which was exactly what I needed lol :) This boolean was actually "clean" in the fact I didn't need to delete anything except the "cylinder" which was very easy to select using face select and edge select mode with the "c" circular area select mode.

edit: wow, I didn't know MediaFire upgraded to Ads++++ on the download image page, the links now go to an ad free view image page I hope :)

Rather OT but can I recommend using Dropbox instead of mediafire? I won't add a referral link but its better than the competition by a country mile.
